Virtual “Designing for Empathy Workshop” Series at Chautauqua Institution (March 10 – May 19, 2020; every Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. EST)

March 10, 2021 @ 3:00 pm - May 19, 2021 @ 5:00 pm

Designing for Empathy Workshops present a variety of customized, research-based experiential learning opportunities that allow each participant to explore and discover for themselves the nuances of empathy, and empathy-building in their lives and work. Designing for Empathy Workshops use a new framework which was first introduced in: Designing for Empathy: Perspectives on the Museum Experience (American Alliance of Museums, 2019), edited by Elif Gökçiğdem, PhD. This framework allows the exploration of empathy through the ingredients, or qualities, of the “Alchemy of Empathy” such as: proximity, curiosity, vulnerability, play, dialogue, collective journeying, and contemplation.

Designing for Empathy Workshops hosted by Chautauqua’s Online Classroom beginning March 10, is like an “empathy-building sand-box,” where experts from different disciplines and sectors gather to collaborate — and, we want you to be a part of this collaboration. We’ll explore empathy through its subtle qualities. Through a deeper look at what creates the “Alchemy of Empathy,” we’ll broaden our understanding of what empathy can be for our humanity and our planet.

This is not a lecture series. It is a fully interactive experience requiring your perspective, engagement, and input! Join us beginning March 10 at Chautauqua’s Online Classroom in one or all eleven of these interactive sessions:
